MONROE COUNTY FAIR
MONSTER TRUCK SUMMER THROWDOWN
August 5, 2011
Each year, the Monroe County Fair grandstands pack full of monster truck fans, 2011 was no exception as the Monster Truck Summer Throwdown produced by Midwest Monster Truck Events did not let down! The solid field of trucks including Avenger, Amsoil Shock Therapy, Bounty Hunter, Brutus, High Maintenance, and Excaliber all rocked the 7,500 plus fans at Monroe.
The show kicked off with a wild wheelie contest, first up was Jocelyn Perrin in the High Maintenance machine who sent her truck into a wild vertical wheelie to open the show. Notable mentions would go to Brutus and Avenger but it was Bounty Hunter, driven by Benjamin Winslow who walked a vertical slap wheelie to claim the wheelie contest win as the crowd took to their feet!
Qualifying would see Jon Zimmer in the Amsoil machine take home the fast time with a blistering 23.50 time on the Chicago-style course. Not far behind him was Bounty Hunter with a 24.10. Zimmer marched through the racing bracket taking down High Maintenance twice as Perrin advanced as fast loser from round 1. Chris Bergeron in the powerful Brutus machine was quick taking down his team mate, Avenger, and the Excaliber driven by Kevin Koszala.
It would be a Bergeron vs Zimmer final round with Zimmer taking home the win in the Shock Therapy truck! The crowd was in a frenzy as they knew all 6 trucks were about to give them a freestyle to remember in Monroe.
The fans were treated to the high flying antics of freestyle motocross! Mikey Vaters and Dan Newth busted out tricks and soared over 30 feet into the air as the crowd voiced their approval, even the back flip was pulled off!
Freestyle saw High Maintenance kick things off with a few nice jumps and wheelies before a rear steering line ruptured cutting Jocelyn's run short. Perrin, excited, ran into the crowd high fiving with her favorite fans in Monroe! Jocelyn would score a 20 out of a possible 30 from the judges. Excaliber and Brutus both but on great performances but could not top Perrin's run and both scored 18. Bounty Hunter put on a clinic of air and slap wheelies to score a 24 to take the lead. Looking to take home another win, Zimmer drove Shock Therapy high into the air with blistering cyclones and massive leaps over the vans and cars. He would score a 27 for the lead, but there was one left. Avenger of Jim Koehler took to the track and gave the Monroe fans an absolute burn down, high flying, high speed, full throttle run to earn a score of 29 and the freestyle win!
Thanks to the great Monroe fans for coming out once again to support us! We are looking forward to returning in 2012!
